Five years have passed since SCCA joined forces with a group of progressive professionals to create the Southern California Inspection Group (SCIG). During that time the association and its new members have successfully completed two contract negotiations with Local 12 of the Operating and begun the process of developing a new, rigorous and more complete curriculum with the union for apprentices and retraining journeymen to provide a higher level of skill to this critical industry. Long before the first scraper or excavator hits the job site, the SCIG member firms are working their magic in the field, providing developers and contractors with critical information about soil composition and environmental concerns. These companies provide highly technical services to the construction industry including a wide array of testing services—concrete, steel, masonry work, asphalt, welding and non-destructive testing—as well as field soils testing and grading inspection, batch plant inspection, construction and building inspection.
